The Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coastline Trophies

To further actualize progress in the Clean Beaches program and enhance the scope and recognition of its awards, leading to greater mobilization and responsibility within civil society, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection launched the first edition of the biennial «The Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coastline Trophies» in April 2014, replacing the «Lalla Hasnaa Clean Beaches Awards».

Initially focused mainly on beaches, this new perspective aims to redirect efforts towards sustainable development of the entire coastline. It became necessary to redefine the award categories while considering the unique features and characteristics of the Moroccan coast.

Thus, five categories were identified :

  • Category 1 : Clean Beaches Program Award
  • Category 2 : Community and Quality of Life Award
  • Category 3 : Natural Heritage Protection and Enhancement Award
  • Category 4 : Education and Youth Award
  • Category 5 : Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility Award

Various profiles are invited to submit their applications, including economic operators, public bodies, NGOs, research centers, universities, and individuals. This approach allows for broader participation.

Strategic Directions :

The Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coastline Trophies continue the spirit and logic of the Clean Beaches Awards by recognizing good practices that benefit not only beaches but now extend to the entire coast. This approach is fundamentally based on education and environmental awareness, with principles that should be reinforced through these awards in sustainable territorial development projects.

This approach is fundamentally based on the principles of education and environmental awareness. These principles are to be strengthened through The Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coastline Trophies, at the heart of sustainable territorial development projects.

To promote this new direction, The Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coastline Trophies are open to a diverse group of participants including private and public entities, research centers, universities, NGOs, and individuals. Governed by internal regulations, these participants can engage through a wide range of initiatives, projects, and eco-citizen actions. This approach focuses on recognition over competition, as adopted by the Foundation, and following the jury's evaluation, projects will be awarded, supported, and encouraged.

The Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coastline Trophies aim to:

  • Checkmark Foster a movement for the protection of the national coastline
  • Checkmark Promote and publicize innovative coastal projects
  • Checkmark Encourage societal involvement in coastal conservation.

To meet these goals and reward inclusive, participatory, useful, and concrete initiatives for education and the environment, the new LALLA HASNAA Sustainable Coastline Trophies adhere to the following strategic directions:

  • Checkmark Support the National Charter for the Environment and Sustainable Development, fostering a new, broader, and inclusive momentum for environmental preservation;
  • Checkmark Maintain the thematic "brand" of the Trophies, centered around the "beach"
  • Checkmark Keep the incubator logic to identify nationally replicable good practices
  • Checkmark Establish an independent jury
  • Checkmark Open the call for applications to all Moroccan stakeholders, setting simple and strict rules for effectively channeling projects
  • Checkmark Promote education and youth participation at the core of sustainable territorial development projects
